PETALS
june 2005
PETALS is a piece of software that manages the full in-clinic treatment cycle of patients for an alternative medicine practice. The practice needed a custom solution due to all the available software being targeted to large-scale hospital operations - something far too bloated for their small operation. They needed a way to collect and analyze data about the effectiveness of their treatments, as they use non-traditional medicine and see exceptional results.
We conducted user research on-site prior to development to codify their process, in order to mimic it within the software's workflow. Administrators can run reports for certain treatments over different date ranges, to discover what is effective and for whom. Patients check in using tablet computers with a stylus to fill out their form, and nurses record test results using touch screen computers that are inside of each treatment room.
